Judgment Day In Judah

Judgment Day In Judah
TEXT: LAMENTATIONS 1:12-22
Key verse: “From above hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all the day" (Lamentations 1:13).
For a time, it had seemed as though   God’s word to punish Judah for her sin as proclaimed by Jeremiah 25:9-11 would not come to pass. For nearly two decades after the Prophet had presented God’s warning of looming invasion of Judah by Babylon to herald a 70-year captivity in exile, these descendants of Abraham refused to change their ways. This is what the Bible says: “Yet ye have not harkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt” (Jeremiah 25:7).
Once delivered, prophecy has a tendency to move inexorably to its destined accomplishment if its admonition is ignored. So a complacent Judah was finally visited by God for its evil ways that led her to idol worship and other abominable acts. The Lord took from the land “the voice of mirth, and the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle” (Jeremiah 25:10).
The Chaldeans stormed Judah and savaged the land, removing the leaders and uprooting the professional men and craftsmen and deporting them to Babylon. The book of Lamentations strikingly captures the desolation that followed the plunder and captivity of Judah, the favored land of milk and honey. “From above hath He (God) sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them: he hath spread a net for my feet, He hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate and faint all day” (Lamentations 1:13).
God’s fury is also hanging over the sinner, waiting for imminent execution unless there is genuine repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior, and followed by holy living and service to God. Humanity must also heed the prophecy of Christ’s second coming: it is moving relentlessly to realisation date.
Thought for the day: Prepare for Christ’s second coming.
