"Then
took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon ... And in the
dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire." (Jeremiah 38:6)
Things
will not always be fair to the believer in an evil world, and the
children of the devil will always persecute the children of God. But in
every situation we must never forget that God will always be there for
us. Jeremiah did not deserve this imprisonment. He rightly prophesied
the word of the Lord to backslidden Israel, but the nobles felt he was
being unpatriotic by telling them to surrender to the invading
Babylonian forces. So, they cast him into a dreadful dungeon, full of
putrefying organic matters, where he would have been drowned or starved
to death.
Friend, have you been unjustly punished by a teacher or your parents?
Or have you been embarrassed by your classmates because you refused to
participate with them in anything evil? Have you suffered any
deprivation because of your principled stand against unrighteousness?
Count your blessings! Cheer up then, for the Lord who helped Jeremiah,
and did not allow him to die in the dungeon will also help you today.
Praise the Lord!
Challenge: In all things, give thanks.
Prayer: Thank You Lord for sparing my life.
